On The Cover:By Sally KalosHappy Mother’s Day!Mother’s Day became a national holiday in the United States in May of 1908, thanks to the efforts of Anna Jarvis. She initiated the celebration to honor her late mother and to recognize the many sacrifices that women make for their children.Motherhood is often considered oneof the most demanding and meaningful roles a woman can embrace. It comes with sleepless nights, tireless effort, and the continuous giving of time, resources, and love. A mother shares in every joy and every heartbreak her child experiences, walking alongside them through life’s many seasons. This Mother’s Day let’s pause to reflect and express heartfelt gratitude.Whether through a simple “Thank you” or a meaningful gesture, it’s the perfect time to honor the selfless women who pour so much of themselves into shaping future generations. Motherhood is a noble calling—one that deserves our deepest respect and appreciation.Mother’s Day Submissions Our Mom Is Special Because SheHomeschools Us & Teaches Us WellBy Michael Hurtado“Our mom is special because she homeschools us and teaches us well in all subjects. Though sometimes me (Michael 10) and my siblings can be difficult, she still shows us grace and love towards us. I love it when she makes delicious food for us, like Dutch Baby, Beef Stroganoff, and Chicken Alfredo. She is always there when I need someone to go to. I asked my brother and sisters to share a few words. Joshua (7) said, “She makes yummy food, cares for us, and teaches me about gardening.” Lydia (5) said, “I love her because she paints my nails.” Anna (3) said, “I love Mommy because she gives me hugs and shows me the chickens.” We want to thank you for everything you do and for serving us with a joyful heart. I thank the Lord for you every day. I love you, my mom and teacher. Happy Mother’s Day!”Thank You Mom!MBy Holly Anthonyy mom and dad will be married60 years in October. As a militaryspouse, she did and saw some amazing and unforgettable things. My dad, an Army aviator, was deployed too many times to count and there were three of us kids in the house. I have two older brothers, supported us in our life; showing up for sporting events, letting us try new things like horseback lessons, shooting lessons, and even let us play extras in a couple movies (I am in a scene with Dame JudiDench). Thank you, mom, for teaching me to be strong, independent, and to have a good work ethic, which I passed on to my two girls. Love you, Mom.My Special Someone - My Mom HBy Alivia Neelyand we always had some sort of pets; dogs, ferrets, and gibbons. I don’t know how she did it, she is amazing. We moved more times than most and by the time I started 9th grade, it was my 9th school and that included 3 years in New York, and 3 years in Thailand and my final 4 years in Georgia. My mom handled the packing, moving, logistics, kid drama and everything else like a champ. In their 60 years, they have moved a total of 56 times; 31 before he retired from the Army. Most of the time she worked and would have to leave her job every time we were transferred and would have to start all over again while she was getting all of us withdrawn or registered in schools, packing, unpacking, discipline, and a million other things.I know I didn’t always appreciate everything she did for us, with us, or because of us, but I am truly grateful for it now. She made sure the three of us got to go see Star Wars when it came out in the theaters, we always had clothes, some she made herself, we never went hungry (unless we chose not to eat what was for dinner). She alwaysave you ever had a special someone in your life? Well, I have, and she is my mom. My mom isimportant to me because she cares about me, she supports me, and she will always be there for me when I need her.She cares about me because when I am sad, she tries to make me feel better. Also, she tries to take care of me and take me to places that might interest me, for example: the mall. She supports me because every time I have a sports game or a competition, she will always be there to cheer me on.She will always be there for me because when I need help on a math question, or can’t get something to work, or (my personal favorite) a hug, I know she will always be willing to do it.This shows that I have a special someone,I know my mom loves me and I love her.
