I went straight through a turn lane while the car next to me turned right. We collided. I got a ticket—and a big problem.We didn’t dare tell Dad. I wasn’t even supposed to be out of the neighborhood on my bicycle, let alone on something with a motor.A court date was set. Mom stayed calm. “I’ll talk to my lawyer,” she said, meaning St. Jude—the patron saint of impossible causes. “He’ll ask God to help us.”On the day of my hearing, we sat nervously in the courtroom until my name was called. That’s when we were told the officer who issued the ticket hadn’t shown up.
