Reagan Graduate, Varun Singh, Selected To Intern At Texas State CapitolReagan High School Varsity Soccer and Girls Classic Elite Athlete, Jenna SalazarKBy Tracy Petersicking in goals since five years old, soccer is truly a way of life for Jenna Salazar. She now playsvarsity for Reagan High School’s soccer team and the “05 Girls Classic Elite ECRL/ ECNL teams.” All in for the long run, Salazar will be playing D2 level soccer at Durango Colorado, Fort Lewis College. A love for criminology, as she is in Reagan’s forensic science club, Salazar will be majoring in criminology. From sweat and tears, Salazar has accomplished the following: “Summa Cum Laude Grad, E-N Player of the Week, E-N Athlete of the Week, 2nd Team All District Forward, three-year Varsity Letterman, four- year Academic All District, and involved in the Paws Cause and Japanese clubs.”About to graduate, Salazar has made a point to reflect back on her pivotal moments and how exactly she got there. Every day in class or on the field, there was something to pause and take in, to glean from, especially celebrating the big wins with her team. Reflecting from her soccer journey, Salazar notes how much grit it really takes to succeed,“There will always be a bad game here and there, but your ability to overcome and shake off any feelings of self-doubt is important to being successful in any aspect of life.”VBy Paige Wolfarun Singh, a 2021 graduate of Ronald Reagan High School and a current student at Texas A&MUniversity, recently began an internship in Austin, Texas at the State Capitol, acting as an integral part of the Office of State Representative Nicole Collier.After a lengthy and rigorous application process, Varun, a Public Health major, was selected for the Public Policy Internship Program (PPIP) at Texas A&M. Through the program, students actively participate in the policy process at the state, national, and international levels.“A substantial portion of the public health field involves policy development, so interacting with policy at the state level will allow me to better understand how policy works at higher levels like federal and international,” explained Varun.As the former Director of Model United Nations at Reagan, Varun’s training and experiences in that role are invaluable to the work he is doing today.“Interacting with constituents from Texas House District 95 reaffirms my belief that we, as citizens, have a voice and the forum is set up for us to use it,” said Varun.Varun is on the pre-med track and aspires to attend medical school after graduating. “My ideal career would include balancingclinical work alongside government relations,” said Varun.ThroughthePPIP,Varunhasbeenableto experience a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity while working toward his personal and professional goals.Reagan Dance Presents 24th Annual Spring ShowTBy Becky Daileyhe Ronald Reagan HS Dance Department proudly presents their 24th annual Spring Show,“Simply the Best!”Fresh off their competition season, the Diamond Dancers, Silvers Stars, and Charmers pep squad have been hard at work with choreography and rehearsals.
