Graduate Recognition: Trinity ErwinPassion For Music Brings DesireBTy Taffanie Erwinrinity graduated from O’Connor High School, distinguishing herself through exceptional service andleadership. She partnered with the African Library Project to build her second library in Malawi, collecting over 1,500 books and raising $1,000 for shipping costs. Trinity also organized the “For the Love of Reading” event at Cable Elementary, where she distributed over 800 books to local students.As one of ten Texas State Thespian Ambassadors, Trinity worked to strengthen arts programs throughout Texas. Her commitment to mental health began in middle school with the Center for Young Minds, an advocacy council for teen mental health. Inspired by her work with CYM, Trinity founded Mindful Panthers at O’Connor to support student well-being on campus. She also served as the 2025 JOCI Awards Student Reporter and represented O’Connor on theSuperintendent’s Voice Forum. Trinity will attend St. Mary’s University after receiving a Trustee Scholarship to study political science.For TeachingIBy Sally Kalossabelle Vega has always been surrounded by music, from her earliest days of singing and dancingto her love for putting on a show. She plays eight instruments, starting with the viola, followed by self-taught piano, guitar, and ukulele. Isabelle has also explored the Kinor mini harp and drums, though she’s still a beginner. With eight years of viola experience and her music knowledge, she can play basic violin and cello.Isabelle was a choral student at O’Connor High School for three years and enjoys performing full orchestra pieces, combining orchestra and band instruments. Her favorite orchestral piece was Danzón No. 2 by Arturo Márquez. She also cherishes singing in mixed choir, particularly Daemon Irrepit Callidus by György Orbán, with its overlapping male and female melodies.At O’Connor, Isabelle was involved in dance, orchestra, and choir. She served as an orchestra officer for two years, including Vice President her senior year, and choreographed for the choir for two years. Isabelle also participated in an Independent Study Mentorship (ISM) class, which connected students to real-world experiences. She was a member of the National Honor Society for two years.Isabelle’s mentors have been a major influence on her musical journey. Her strings teacher from 5th grade, Ms. Roxanne Ng, inspired her to rekindle her passion for music. Orchestra and choir directors Mrs. Brenda Johnson, Mrs. Sarah Stevens, and Ms. Anna Schulte pushed Isabelle to refine her skills and attention to detail.She has earned several medals at Solo and Ensemble Contests, including four in orchestra and two in choir. Isabelle advanced to the State Solo and Ensemble Contest twice in orchestra.Isabelle plans to attend the University of North Texas (UNT) to major in Choral Music Education and hopes to teach music from elementary to high school.
