There is nothing quite like the spirit ofFiesta® that not only touches those who live in San Antonio but also those in nearby areas. This tradition dates to 1891 when a group of women from elite San Antonio society - The Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) - adorned themselves and their horse-drawn carriages in flowers. It was a way to honor the memory of the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto.Fiesta runs from Thursday, April 18, 2024, to Sunday, April 28, 2024. Visit for all the Fiesta events throughout San Antonio. San Antonio school districts will be closed for the famous Battle of Flowers® Parade, an event that attracts more than 550,000 spectators from around the nation. Many high school bands will be performing in the parade. For those unfamiliar, The Battle of Flowers commemorates the Battles of the Alamo and San Jacinto in April 1836, crucial in Texas’ independence from Mexico.Fiesta® is the city’s biggest festival with an economic impact of $340 million. It is often called the “Party with a Purpose” because each event benefits scholarships and charitable organizations. Some of the most popular events besides the Battle of Flowers include thePhoto Courtesy Of The Fiesta San Antonio Commission.Fiesta Flambeau parade, festivals like the Oyster Bake, the Fiesta Arts Fair, and Night in Old San Antonio. By checking the events, there is sure to be an event you will want to experience. There are more than 100 Fiesta events, including parades, culinary pop ups, exhibits, observances and more.Fiesta medals are something many look forward to displaying on their sashes and vests. These medals are created each year to celebrate Fiesta San Antonio. Companies, nonprofit organizations, and schools love to give away or sell Fiesta medals during the festivities. If you have never experienced Fiesta, we hope you get an opportunity to do so and discover what makes San Antonio special. We also want to encourage you to think about your mom and dad and what they mean to you.
