Outstanding Athlete: Grant SchniedersOutstanding Achiever: Kaylee SlaydonFBy Fusion Academyew would argue that the education of our children hasn’t undergone a seismic shift over the last 3 years.New challenges, but also new paths to success have opened up to families across the nation in a way we never would have considered in years gone by. When Fusion Academy opened its doors in January of 2022, the landscape of education in San Antonio was irrevocably altered, and families in our community now had access to an unprecedented level of individualized education to set their children up for future success.One of the many students that embodies this spirit of empowered growth is Kaylee Slaydon, rising senior and student at Fusion Academy since November of 2022. Her drive and ambition were only matched by the excitement she displayed as she rose to each challenge put forth in the classroom and became an anchor in our school community.Kaylee’s magnetic personality, academic performance, and moral fortitude has only continued to grow in her time here, and she has since cemented herself as a studentGrant’s journey is a testament to the power of dedication and having a clear vision for one’s goals. As he moves into his senior year and beyond, he continues toGBy Sally Kalosrant Schnieders, soon to be a senior at Reagan High School, has made significant strides in his athleticcareer, particularly in wrestling, which he began in his freshman year. Inspired by the accomplishments of his peers and his personal aspirations, Grant has quickly climbed the ranks in the sport.Throughout his high school journey, Grant has not only been involved in wrestling but also played football. His dedication and hard work in wrestling paid off this year as he placed second at the state championships and qualified for the national team. These accomplishments mark significant milestones in his burgeoning athletic career.When it comes to his future academic pursuits, Grant is still exploring his options. He has visited several universities including Texas A&M, the University of Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State University. While he remains undecided about competing in wrestling at the college level, he is considering majors that could lead to a career in finance or aviation.Grant’s favorite memory from his wrestling career is competing at nationals, where he won crucial matches in front of his teammates—an experience that highlights the camaraderie and intensity of the sport. His success in wrestling can be attributed to his unwavering dedication and a strongGrant at Nationals in Oklahoma and won 10-0 against a wrestler from Georgiamindset, traits he has cultivated through consistent effort and focus on his goals.As for what lies ahead, Grant is preparing to compete in the largest wrestling tournament in the country this July in Fargo, North Dakota. This event promises to be a significant platform for him to showcase his skills and potentially set the stage for his collegiate wrestling career.leader not just on campus, but in our community as a whole. Evidenced by her nomination for the Rising Light Scholarship Award from the San Antonio Express News, SA Lights, Kaylee has demonstrated that despite the challenges our youth currently face in the tumultuous landscape of young adult life, the opportunities to thrive not only exist, but are well within their grasp!
