This means that summer visitation needs to be elected. Ifyou are entitled to 30 days or more in the summer, then you can normally choose which days you want. Most orders will state that you need to give notification to the other parent by April 1st the 30 days you will be exercising this summer. If you do not give notice, your order will state a default visitation which is normally July 1st – July 31st. The parent that gets 30 days in the summer also gets weekend visitation on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th weekends from Friday 6p.m. to the following Sunday at 6 p.m. There are no Thursday visits during the summer.The other parent also gets extra time in the summer. That parent gets one of 1st, 3rd or 5th the weekends so they can have two weeks of uninterrupted time for the summer. That parent can also choose to pick one weekend during the thirty days that the other parent will have visitation. The parent must elect and notify the other parent of their selections by April 15th. If Mom is the one requesting the extra weekends, she cannot designate Father’s Day weekend, this automatically goes to Dad.I always recommend that you check yourorders to see exactly what they say regarding visitation days and times. Check your orders to see if you need to give notification or an itinerary to the other parent if you are going out of state or out of the country with your child. There might also be provisions that the 30-day summer visitation can’t start the day after school ends or within 7 days prior to school starting.During summer, visitation the parent in possession of the child is responsible for childcare if necessary. If you have a right of first refusal in your order, make sure you check the hours to see if you need to give notice to the other parent.
