It is based on the first Sunday after the full moon that occurs on or after the spring equinox. If the full moon falls on a Sunday, then Easter is the next Sunday. We hope this Easter will bring you lots of joy with your family celebrating the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is also a great time to watch your children enjoy Easter egg hunts and, cascarones can be added to the fun. If you are new to our city, cascarones are eggshells hollowed out, colored, carefully filled with confetti, and sealed with paper. There is nothing like seeing the joy of a child cracking one on top of their mom and dad’s heads. It is said that having one cracked on your head brings good fortune. For sure it brings a lot of laughs and leaves confetti for days in your hair!If you did not get enough of the cascarones at Easter, Fiesta is also a time to enjoy this tradition.Fiesta is a party with a purpose for San Antonio. It is a real Texas–sized festival with long standing traditions, a great opportunity to make some wonderful memories.Photo Courtesy Of Fiesta San Antonio Commission.Fiesta takes place this year on April 20 – April 30, 2023. The first Fiesta began in 1891 with just one parade-the very first Battle of Flowers Parade organized to honor the heroes from the Battle of the Alamo and Battle of San Jacinto.Today, Battle of Flowers is the parade of Fiesta. In fact, it’s second in size nationally only to the Tournament of Roses Parade. Schools across Bexar County even enjoy the day off in recognition of Battle of Flowers Parade and many high school bands look forward to participating in the Battle of Flowers Parade. Many San Antonio businesses also give the day off to employees so that families can take advantage of one of San Antonio’s greatest traditions.Fiesta is unique because it provides countless not for profit organizations a venue to raise money to give back to the community they serve. Read about “132 Years of Fiesta San Antonio” on page 6 and some of the popular events to visit. A complete calendar of events can be found at www. fiestasanantonio.org.Until next month enjoy the Holy Holiday and San Antonio’s greatest traditions.Happy Easter & Viva Fiesta!
