“Refranes y Raíces: Honoring Hispanic Heritage”Submitted ByThe upcoming art exhibit, created by Hispanic artist Mary Carmen, showcases a profound connection to culture, family, and tradition. The exhibit features “Celestial Omen,” a striking piece symbolizing resilience and new beginnings; the “Refranes” series brings to life popular, clever and meaningful Spanish sayings; “Raíces,”a heartfelt portrayal of the artist and her daughters wearing traditional Mexican dresses, emphasizing the importance of roots and heritage, while “Viva la Vida” embraces Frida Kahlo’s iconic phrase, inviting viewers to reflect on the freedom to chase our dreams. The public may take photos in front of this large painted wings and share them on social media. “Tree of Life,” a vibrant work in Talavera style celebrating family unity. Additionally, Day of the Dead representations honor this significant celebration in Hispanic culture, which has become a beloved tradition in our city.Opening Reception October 5th • 4 - 6 p.m. Free and open to the public. The library hosts “Astronomy Nights” for all ages at their Observatory. Astronomy nights include a short, entertaining presentation by the New Braunfels Astronomy Club, followed by sky views through their telescopes. The Club has hosts these Star Parties at Canyon Lake’s TPM Library, 16311 South Access Road, Canyon Lake. The library is one of a few libraries nationwide with an on-site observatory.Nicki Pownall, Adult Coordinator for the library, suggests the following sky parties: Oct. 26 – Astronomy Night, 7 to 9 PM.Nov. 30 – Astronomy Day and Sun Party, 6:00 PM. Join the Library for a day of solar fun! Sit in an air-conditioned room and look at a live view of the sun on a large screen. Plus, the astronomers will have filters for their telescopes for a safe to look at the sun.
