Outstanding Athlete: Olivia PeñaOBy Sally Kaloslivia Peña, a senior at Sandra Day O’Connor High School, has been a dedicated volleyball player sincethe 2nd grade, starting with Our Lady of Guadalupe CYO Sports. Now the setter for the O’Connor team, she finds inspiration in her role, helping her teammates succeed and watching team chemistry grow over time.Her achievements are impressive: Academic All-District First Team (2023, 2024), District Honorable Mention (2024), District Champions (2024), Regional Quarterfinal Champions (2023), the O Award for Outstanding GPA, Academic Excellence from College Board, and the AVCA Academic Award for 2024/2025. Olivia is also active in NHS, SASO, Panther Pals, the Culinary Arts Program, and numerous community service projects.Next year, she will attend Angelo State University to play NCAA Division II volleyball while pursuing a degree in Health Professions with a specialization in physical therapy, aiming for a doctorate in occupational therapy.Her advice to fellow students: “Be willing to do things that make you uncomfortable. Value the people and resources around you, stay involved, find passions beyond your sport, challenge yourself academically, and develop strong time-management skills.”Olivia’s favorite memory is the 2024 “Crush Game” victory over Brandeis, a redemption win after the previous year’s loss.
