I chose to speak about this topic to convince other doctors to utilize hormone replacement therapy intheir practices.Frankly, I am upset when patients tell me,“My doctor said I need to stop hormones, it’s been too long, and I am too old”. Or, “My doctor/nurse practitioner said it was dangerous for me to be taking hormones at my age” . (Funny, but I never hear men patients tell me their doctor suggested they stop testosterone!) So, yes, even if a woman had a hysterectomy, she still needs progesterone. Another article pointed out a longer duration estrogen exposure was associated with better cognitive status in the older woman.
