We asked the community to share letters of appreciation for their moms, and reading through them has been a heartwarming experience. In this issue, you’ll find these heartfelt submissions. For me, being a mom and grandma has been the greatest blessing. It’s a role filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. I hope that, as a mom or someone who has played a motherly role, you are celebrated and surrounded by loved ones this Mother’s Day.Thinking of my own mother, who will be 79 this summer, I am reminded of her strength and resilience. Throughout her life, she has worn many hats and tackled every challenge with determination. Her unwavering perseverance has been a guiding light for me, especially during difficult times. My husband, Ronnie, lost his mom in October 2015. She was 89 years old and a remarkable woman. Her smile and sense of humor were contagious, and she was always there to support Ronnie, especially in his love for music. As a band mom herself, she cheered him on through countless band practices and performances. Her kindness, laughter, and gratitude left a lasting impacton everyone who knew her.Mother’s Day, as we know it today, originated in the early 1900s thanks to the efforts of Anna Jarvis, daughter of Ann Reeves Jarvis. Anna wanted to honor the sacrifices mothers make for their children, and her vision became a reality. The first Mother’s Day was celebrated on May 12, 1907, in Grafton, West Virginia. Within a few years, it became a national holiday, thanks to U.S. President Woodrow Wilson.Over time, Mother’s Day has evolved to include not just mothers, but also grandmothers and aunts—anyone who plays a nurturing role in our lives. It has become a day not just for honoring, but also for expressing gratitude and love through cards and gifts. As we celebrate Mother’s Day this year, let’s remember the women who have shaped us and the joy they bring to our lives. Whether you are a mother, grandmother, or someone who fills a nurturing role, this day is for you.We also want to congratulate all the graduates this month—whether from high school or college, your achievements are remarkable, and we wish you all the success in the world. Remember, mom is so proud of you!Sincerely,Ronnie & Gina BarberaRonnie & Gina Barbera PublishersMay 2024www.heloteshighlights.com3
