Outstanding Athlete: Ethan DiazEBy Sally Kalosthan Diaz, a senior at Sandra Day O’Connor High School, has been involved in soccer since the ageof 7. He credits his coaches, teammates, family, and professionals for inspiring him throughout his soccer journey. Ethan has achieved several notable accomplishments, including being invited to join a national team to play in Ireland. Additionally, he has been recognized as one of the best in the region (1st Team All-Region) during his sophomore to senior years. Recently, the UPSL men’s team he plays for won the state championship.Aside from soccer, Ethan is active in the National Honor Society and participates in a pharmacology program. Although he is undecided on which college to attend, he plans to major in Biology.Reflecting on his high school experience, Ethan advises his peers to enjoy their time in high school, make connections, and work hard to be their best selves. His favorite soccer memory is winning the first round of playoffs in his junior year, a feat not accomplished in 7 years, with his favorite team of players.Ethan attributes his success in soccer to his resilience and patience. He believes that overcoming and adapting to challenges both on and off the field is crucial for any athlete. Patience, he says, is essential forLLS Recognizes Chloe Guitron WithAdvocacy Mission Pillar AwardTBy Sally Kaloshe Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) honors Chloe Guitron, a sophomore at O’Connor HighSchool, with the Advocacy Mission Pillar Award for her exceptional dedication to raising awareness and funds for blood cancer research. Chloe participated in the Student Visionaries of the Year philanthropic competition, which unites high school students nationwide in the fight against blood cancer, a disease diagnosed every 180 seconds in the U.S.Chloe’s commitment was evident through her efforts, organizing events like local farmers markets to engage the community and educate her peers about LLS’s mission. She believes in the importance of supporting those affected by cancer and wanted to use her voice to advocate for others. Chloe learned that fundraising requires patience, commitment, and the ability to seek support, which paid off in fulfilling ways.Beyond her advocacy work, Chloe aspires to a career in psychology, specifically focusing on helping children.
