Helotes Court - Continued from page 6Shelby Smith ~ Miss Spirit 2024Claire Noelle Leal ~ Miss Congeniality 2024SBy Sally Kaloshelby Smith, a senior at Agriculture Science & Technology Academy, joined the Miss Helotes ScholarshipPageant to meet new people and gain new experiences. Her dedication earned her the title of Miss Spirit, making her part of the Helotes 2024 Court alongside five other young women who have become like sisters to her.Being on the court has been life- changing for Shelby, helping her gain confidence in public speaking. Throughout the year, she and her fellow court members have participated in various community projects. Her favorite event was the Helotes 0.5K Run, where the energy of the community made it a memorable experience.Shelby hopes that future Miss Spirit titleholders will be supportive of those around them and fully embrace the experience. She encourages future contestants to give their all, as the journey has been one of the best in her life.Beyond the pageant, Shelby is deeply involved in agriculture. She shows lambs and chickens and has competed in multiple FFA teams, including poultry and meat judging. Additionally, she is a member of the National Honor Society, demonstrating her dedication to academics and leadership.By Sally KalosLooking ahead, Shelby plans to attend Tarleton State University to study Nursing. “I want to be a nurse because I have always enjoyed caring for children and helping others,” she says.Shelby’s journey reflects her passion for service, leadership, and personal growth, making her a true role model in her community.Looking ahead, she plans to attend Texas Tech University to study business and marketing.Claire Noelle Leal, a senior at Sandra Day O’Connor High School, proudly holds the title of MissCongeniality 2024 in the Miss Helotes Scholarship Pageant Court.When asked what motivated her to compete, she answered with a laugh, “Honestly, the sparkling crowns—and some encouragement from my mom!”Being part of the court has boosted her confidence in ways she never expected. It has helped her grow in public speaking, communication, and self-assurance. One of her favorite events was Cornyval, where she loved seeing people enjoy themselves and interact with the court. “Watching little girls light up when they saw ‘real-life princesses’ was amazing,” she said. Of course, she also enjoyed the food and cherished memories like helping kids with mutton busting.Claire hopes to leave a legacy of accomplishment, love, and, of course, sparkles. Her advice for future contestants?“Don’t second-guess confidence!”yourself—haveHarmony Public Schools Hosted Inaugural Military City Celebrationarmony Public Schools hosted its inaugural Military City Celebration on February 27,bringing together military families, students, and community members to highlight the role of STEM in military service. The event, inspired by a dedicated staff member, parent, and military spouse, aimed to foster a tradition of community engagement and support.San Antonio, home to many military families, was the ideal setting for the event. Superintendent Mr. Bakir emphasized the importance of recognizing those who serve and providing meaningful experiences for military families and their children. The opening ceremony featured students presenting custom 3D-printed military coins to honored military members, blending tradition with student-driven innovation.Throughout the evening, attendees enjoyed a variety of activities, including a national anthem performance by Harmony Public Schools student Malique, student- led drone demonstrations showcasing STEM applications in military operations, and STEM exhibits featuring military-owned vendors. The event also offered insight into Harmony Public Schools’ four San Antonio campuses.Sgt. I’ve grown in confidence, leadership, and connection with others,” she shares. “Representing my community has taught me responsibility while creating lasting friendships.”Her favorite experience was Cornyval, where the court welcomed attendees and participated in festivities. “It was an incredible way to celebrate Helotes, connect with people, and embrace our town’s traditions.”As Miss Citizenship, Adyson hopes to leave a legacy of compassion, service, and leadership. She wants to inspire others to uplift their communities through acts of kindness and positive action. “True citizenship isn’t just about holding a title— it’s about using your voice to create change.”For future Miss Helotes candidates, her advice is to embrace the journey wholeheartedly. “Give it your all, not just for8the crown, but for the personal growth you’ll experience. The skills you gain—leadership, public speaking, and poise—will benefit you beyond the competition.”Adyson plans to study biomedical sciences on a pre-veterinary track, with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln as her top choice.“Being on the court has been an unforgettable experience. I encourage anyone considering it to take that step forward—you’ll grow in ways you never imagined.”Britney Smith-Veteran Tony Gonzales Office and US Army MedCothe U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence, delivered a speech on the significance of STEM in military operations. Veterans, including members of the 56th Signal Battalion, an official military partner, and Britney Smith a veteran caseworker from Tony Gonzales office were recognized for their service and contributions.Held at Harmony School of Science-San Antonio, the event successfully blended appreciation, education, and hands-on STEM experiences.
