Outstanding Athlete : William D’OrazioCynthia Elizondo Named Helotes Elementary Teacher of the YearBWy Sally Kalosilliam D’Orazio, a senior at O’Connor High School, is a standout on the swim team,competing in the 100-yard butterfly, 200- yard individual medley, 200-yard medley relay, and 400-yard freestyle relay.His swimming journey began at seven years old with a club team, and he has continued competing at both the club and high school levels. His drive comes from within—constantly setting new goals and pushing himself to achieve more.William’s high school accomplishments include:3-time District Athlete of the Meet, Regional Athlete of the Meet,6-time District & Regional Champion, 2-time State Finalist.Nationally, he earned a spot on the USA Swimming National Select Team, recognizing the top 51 male swimmers in the U.S. ages 16-17.Beyond the pool, William played water polo and is a National Honor Society member. She first joined as a Kindergarten teacher and later became the school librarian, where she fosters a love of learning through books.“I was so blessed to be hired here, and I loved it so much, I never left!” she shared.On February 3rd, Principal Kasey Crick announced Elizondo as the 2024-2025 Teacher of the Year. Surrounded by cheers from her colleagues, she described the moment as truly special.Mrs. Elizondo has made a lasting impact at Helotes, leading numerous initiatives that promote literacy and community engagement. Her contributions include reading incentive programs, book talks, the KDOG announcements club, Reading with Dogs, the STEAM team, and serving as the campus historian. She also organizes Rodeo Day and was instrumental in securing the school’s book vending machine, funded by the PTA.“She is an integral part of the Helotes Elementary community,”said Principal Crick.
