What started as a local celebration in Sonoma County, California, as “Women’s History Week” expanded across the country, gaining momentum. By 1987, Congress had designated March as National Women’s History Month.March 1st is also National Peanut Butter Lover’s Day, so whip up a recipe and make your favorite peanut butter dish. You could also host a peanut butter potluck and invite friends and family for a peanut-themed meal.March 2nd is National Play Outside Day. Plan outdoor activities for the early morning or late evening. Maybe you’d like to play golf or run around outside with your kids or grandkids. Just get outside and enjoy!March 10, 2024, is Spring Forward Daylight Savings Time. We will need to advance our clocks one hour ahead. Interestingly, Hawaii and Arizona do not observe daylight savings time.March 17, 2024, is St. Patrick’s Day, a religious and cultural holiday that observes the death of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. The holiday has evolved into a celebration of Irish culture with parades, special foods, music, dancing, drinking, anda whole lot of green.March 19th is the beginning of spring.There is nothing like seeing the evidence of spring with the bloom of flowers and trees budding new leaves. This Christian holiday celebrates the resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ. It’s a wonderful time to reflect on the gift of salvation He offered by dying on the cross for our sins. This year is no exception. From sports to amusement parks, the City comes to life. The trees are budding, the grass is greening, the birds are singing, urging us to get out and enjoy! If you need a few ideas on whatto do, read on.Start the month with a Spurs game onMarch 3 at the Frost Bank Center against the Indiana Pacers! There are nine home games in March, so check the Frost Bank Center website for tickets and information. Our team needs some encouragement!Theme parks start to reopen for the season! Beginning March 2, Morgan’s Wonderland will be open on weekends through May, with the Splash Park opening May 17. Morgan’s Wonderland is a fabulous and unique play place everyone can enjoy. There are over 25 accessible rides and play areas.Fiesta Texas and Seaworld are open for Spring Break! Seaworld will open March 1-17 and stay open on weekends until summer. Fiesta Texas will open March 9-16 and weekends until mid-May. Both parks operate daily beginning in June.The San Antonio Aquarium is open year- round but is a great place to visit duringSpring Break. The Aquarium is located at 6320 Bandera Road and features “a wide variety of amphibians, an interactive lorikeet and parakeet aviary, cold water and tropical fish. sharks, a stingray touch tank, and a rainforest with hundreds of reptiles.” Admission discounts for military and seniors exist, and educators are always free. More info at SanAntonioAcquarium.netNot to be missed, on March 16 and 17, The Bud Light St. Patrick’s Festival, River Parade, and River Dyeing event in La Villita Historic Village and the San Antonio River Walk. The family-friendly festival features fun activities, live entertainment, and vendors. Admission is free. Per the San Antonio Riverwalk website, the festival will begin with the traditional San Antonio River green dyeing “when our beautiful San Antonio River Walk transforms into the River Shannon through 25 gallons of eco-friendly green dye.”The website has all the details.The month closes with the start of Easter weekend and the traditional Passion Play on Good Friday, March 29. The reenactment of Christ’s journey to the cross begins at 10 am in Milam Park and culminates at San Fernando Cathedral. This event comes with a disclaimer that it may not be appropriate for small children due to the graphicportrayalofthecrucifixion.The whirlwind is just getting started,though. Tee up and get ready to swing intoApril! The Valero Texas Open is April 1-8 at the JW Marriott, and Fiesta is April 8-18.
