When we live in gratitude, we become more generous, compassionate, and joyful. Instead of focusing on what we lack, we learn to celebrate what others have and to share what God has given us. From aChristian perspective, gratitude is far more than a polite response to kindness—it is a posture of the heart that acknowledges God’s goodness, faithfulness, and sovereignty in every circumstance.Scripture reminds believers that thanksgiving is central to a life of worship. Paul writes,“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Notice that we are not told to give thanks for all things, but in all things. Gratitude does not depend on perfect conditions, but on a perfect God. When we cultivate thankfulness, we are affirming our trust that God is at work even when life feels uncertain or difficult.True thankfulness grows out of a deep awareness of God’s grace. Every breath wetake, every blessing we enjoy, and even the trials that refine our faith are gifts from His loving hand. As James 1:17 reminds us, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights.” When we slow down and recognize God’s hand in our daily lives— the sunrise, a friend’s encouragement, a moment of peace—we find that gratitude naturally overflows from our hearts.A thankful spirit transforms not only ourBy StaffTips To Simplify Your Thanksgiving Dinner MenuTOctober in Canada and the fourth Thursday of November in the United States, Thanksgiving in each country offers families and friends an opportunity to gather and break bread together.Food is indeed a focus of Thanksgiving in both Canada and the United States, and that can be a little overwhelming if not intimidating for those tasked with hosting the celebration. Guests might come to expect certain Thanksgiving staples, including turkey and mashed potatoes. Such expectations can make it easier to plan a Thanksgiving menu, and sticking to Turkey Day standard bearers is not the only way to simplify meal planning on this beloved holiday.• Accept help, but keep it limited. It’s customary for loved ones invited to Thanksgiving celebrations to offer to bring a dish to dinner, and that can alleviate some of the work hosts are tasked with managing. However, hosts can keep things simple by asking only a small handful of guests to prepare a side dish. It can be hard to find space on the table if too many guests bring dishes from home, and that can lead to hurt feelings if certain sides are ignored or left on the kitchen counter due to a lack of real estate.• Explain your desire to reduce food waste. Another way to simplify the meal is to avoid succumbing to the temptation to cook too much food. Guests may expect to go home with full bellies. Indeed, the Calorie Control Council notes that Americans consume between 3,000 and 4,500 calories during Thanksgiving celebrations. Such consumption is not only unhealthy for humans, but the planet as well.
