vFamily MattersvDivorce Is HardDBy Brooke Irey, Attorneyivorce is hard. Splitting up the family is hard. Everything changes, but the child’s needsstay the same. One of the consequences of divorce is that everyone’s life changes, not just emotionally, but also financially. This can include moving to a smaller house, changing from private to public school and not being able to participate in all the past extra-curricular activities. Making the transition easier for the kids is at the heart of co-parenting.Once the decision for divorce has been made, you and your spouse need to figure out how to keep things status quo for your children during the divorce process. If the kids are in private school, then see what can be done to keep them there for the remainder of the school year. Other options might need to explore for the next school year. This is something that should be calmly discussed and remember to keep the child’s best interest as the focal point.Extra-curriculars also need to be discussed. As we know, these activities can be pricey and take up a lot of time. Extra-curricular are not always split 50/50. However, it is possible that the court can order that the parties split the activities or each gets to pick one activity per semesterCARE OPTIONSSENIOR LIVING SOLUTIONSExpert Guidance At No CostTMTMWe are experienced, qualified professionals available 24/7, all day, every day.
