Recognizing Cadet LieutenantCommander Nia HoppstaedterBTy Scott Outlawhe Smithson Valley HS NJROTC Unit is finishing an outstanding year in which it completed itsAnnual Area Manager Inspection with a grade of OUTSTANDING and was once again named a DISTINGUISHED UNIT with ACADEMIC HONORS. This year’s successes can be attributed in large part due to the outstanding leadership of the Ranger Company Commanding Officer, Cadet Lieutenant Commander Nia Hoppstaedter, who has done a remarkable job leading and inspiring this program to an unprecedented level of achievement.Nia, a resident of Bulverde, enrolled at Smithson Valley HS in her sophomore year after her family’s move from Germany. In fact Nia is a German citizen who had lived her entire life in Germany until she moved to Bulverde and entered Smithson Valley HS in 2021. Nia joined NJROTC at the encouragement of her family and she quickly made many new friends and NJROTC soon became her second home. Nia thrived in the NJROTC program and on the competition teams where she was a key contributor on the Academic, Physical Fitness, and Drill teams her sophomore year.
