v Family Matters v Summer Visitation Needs To Be ElectedBSy Brooke Irey, Attorneyummer will be here before we know it. This means that summer visitation needs to be elected. Ifyou are entitled to 30 days or more in the summer, then you can normally choose which days you want. Most orders will state that you need to give notification to the other parent by April 1st the 30 days you will be exercising this summer. If you do not give notice, your order will state a default visitation which is normally July 1st – July 31st. The parent that gets 30 days in the summer also gets weekend visitation on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th weekends from Friday 6p.m. to the following Sunday at 6 p.m. There are no Thursday visits during the summer.The other parent also gets extra time in the summer. That parent gets one of 1st, 3rd or 5th the weekends so they can have two weeks of uninterrupted time for the summer. That parent can also choose to pick one weekend during the thirty days that the other parent will have visitation. The parent must elect and notify the other parent of their selections by April 15th.
