Miss Spring Branch Teen USA 2023 - Abbey AlcoserTBy Georgia Jenningshis year, Spring Branch will berepresented by Miss AbbeyAlcoser in the Miss Texas Teen USA pageant, held in Houston July 14- July 16, 2023. This Smithson Valley High School student, and current Miss Spring Branch Teen USA, aspires to be a leader and considers leadership as her greatest strength. As a leader “one must lead” Abbeyacknowledges, “although it is key to remember to walk alongside others as you do.” Leadership, in addition to kindness, initiative, and the willingness to help others are all qualities she believes makes an effective titleholder. She is excited to be competing in the upcoming Miss Texas Teen USA pageant and hopes to empower other young females to pave their course in leadership and community participation. She has stated that if she were to win, she plans on serving her community as a role model by helping teens to realize that they can create and accomplish anything that they put their minds to. We wish Abbey luck and invite the community to check out the Misstexasusa.com website for updates and voting.Super Star Teacher of Indian Springs Elementary - Tina FloresTBy Georgia Jenningshe Super Star teacher program, developed by the Bulverde Spring Branch Area Chamber ofCommerce, recognizes teachers serving Western Comal County area schools who excel in leadership, creativity, and imagination. They recently acknowledged Tina Flores, whose subject area is the Gifted and Talented at Indian Springs Elementary. Walking into her classroom will create a sense of walking into the future. You’ll find students coding, controlling robots and building 3D figures with a printer. She will have them solving problems that they’ve noticed within the world and her curriculumprovides her students with an outlet to engage and extend their knowledge. But she’s not content with just working with her students. As an advocate for higher order instruction, she makes time in her schedule to visit all classrooms, coaching other teachers to make sure that they are able to meet the needs of their students. And if that weren’t enough, she runs the morning announcements, the Lego League and is the school’s UIL leader. It’s easy to understand why school principal, Mary Stults, describes Mrs. Flores as “a runner whose bucket is overflowing.” She is always running to help another in need.Local Student Recognizes Teachery name is Vikki, and I am a student at HAAC, a local co-op. Mrs. Slater teaches Science and also English. She has taught in the Bulverde area for about 13 years. I want to acknowledge her talent in the classroom in this month’s article to thank her for making me eager to go to class each week and for being so much fun. Her personality and stories keep the class engaged while her knowledge in Science helps give satisfactory answers to any confusion. It’s really great having a teacher who is so learned in their subject because you feel like you can trust the person better and not be afraid to askany questions you have. Mrs. Slater has told us that she might not be teaching there next year. This is the first year I have her as teacher, but it’s probably not the first time for many of her students; so I write this not only for this year, but for all these years: Thank you Mrs. Slater for teaching us!to work at home? No problem! They can provide a variety of home projects. Several ladies work at home and then join at their regular meetings to share, work, or just visit. All equipment and materials are provided (although donations are always welcomed). Do you want to bless others and be blessed? Come visit, have a tour given by their fabulous leader Jan Mobley.
