Our romance was a set up. God had it all planned. We meeton a blind date set. His cousin went to my school and said he had a cousin he’d like me to meet. Well, he had me from HELLO. I knew I had him when one evening he (Roy)came to pick me up and I was on the phone. Which back then was the only phone in the house, and it was on the wall. He heard me talking and said, “Can I have the phone a second?” He told the guy I was talking to not to call anymore because she’s not dating anyone else. Now picture this, he’s a real shy guy.We were high school sweethearts. We have two children, four grandchildren, one great grandson and one on the way. God has truly blessed us. We have lived in Bulverde for the last 46 years. We are still very much in love. The old saying is very true. It’s not what you have. It’s who makes you happy and can’t wait to see and be with every day. This is truly a blessing to be thankful for each other. There was a cute guy manning the register for Christmas items. I was asked by another salesgirl to inquire whether he had plans for Christmas Eve. (She was planning to host a party and invite him.) When I asked, he responded by asking me to go to confession and midnight mass with him.We did indeed go to confession and mass despite my mother’s skepticism. 52 years married and 13 children later and we still go to mass together. We Had The Same Realtor Who Gave My Number To My Future Husbandevery day. Between us there were five children ranging fromages 12 to 21.I had moved back to Texas with mychildren and was house hunting. As it turned out, we both were using the same Realtor. The Realtor called me one day and said, Ramona, I know you haven’t been dating, but I have a client, and I think you should both meet. She asked if she could give him my phone number. To my surprise I said yes and that I trusted her and her judgement. He called me and I invited him to my daughter’s 16th birthday at my house. I invited the Realtor and her husband so he would know someone. He actually asked to speak with my daughter to ask if it would ok with her if he came to her party. After my late husband passed, I had always said; God would have to put someone in front of me and say this is the one. Well, God did just that! This blind date turned into a family event with Brad meeting my entire family! Mom, dad, aunt, uncle, cousins, etc. He met them all. Needless to say, as we all sat out on they Brett Millerback porch singing and playing the guitar, we have been together ever since.Jokingly, Pat, our Realtor asked if she heard wedding bells. That was Friday the 13th of July 2001. We were married 5 months later. When you know, you know. We just celebrated 23 years together and have 12 grandchildren with one on the way.Love Stories - continued on page 7 February 2025
