By Royce AchterbergW e would like to congratulate to Dylan Garner with Troop 1776 on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout! There are only a small percentage of Boy Scouts that earn this prestigious honor. To become an Eagle Scout, one must complete a series of challenging requirements, including demonstrating leadership, service, and outdoor skills. Dylan is a shining example of what it means to be an Eagle Scout. He is a hard worker, a team player, and a role model to his peers. He is also a dedicated member of his community and has volunteered countless hours tohelp others.When planning his Eagle ScoutProject, he wanted to be able to help his community. He, along with donors and volunteers built a new covered Puppy Play Pen for the Bulverde Area Humane Society. This new structure for the BAHS will provideSubmitted By Kathy RenfrowH eath Renfrow, a United States Navy Veteran, who dedicated nine years of his life to serving his country. Heath’s journey began when he graduated from Smithson Valley HighSchool in 1997 and joined the Navy.As an operations specialist second class, Heath found himself in the heart of action, serving in both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. His commitment and bravery earned him a collection of distinguished commendations and medals, including the Joint Commendation Medal, Joint Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (x3), andCombat Ribbons.a safe and shaded place for the young puppies to grow and interact before finding their forever homes. To make this happenhe raised over four thousand dollars in donations and compiled over 186 hours of community service from himself and the many volunteers. We are proud to have him as a member of our community and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors. Dylan is an inspiration to others by showing that it is possible to achieve great things through hard work, dedication, and service to others. He is a member of the Order of the Arrow, plays both Varsity Football and Lacrosse for Smithson Valley and is a member of the National Honor Society maintaining a 3.95 GPA. He has applied to Texas A&M to fulfill his dream of becoming a Veterinarian, working with large and exotic animals.A special thanks to BSA Troop 1776, VFW Post 12205 and all the donors that helped make his dream happen.We hope that his story will inspire otheryoung people to pursue their dreams and make a difference in the world. We are proud of you!Recognizing Eagle Scout Dylan Garner~ Loved & Missed Dearly ~TSubmitted By Comal ISDhe countless hours spent practicing early morning and late at night have paid off for twoComal ISD marching bands which advancedto the State 5A UIL marching contest, that took place on Monday, Nov. 6, in the Alamodome.Both bands from Pieper High School and Smithson Valley High School represented the district after advancing on Saturday, Oct. 30, during the UIL 5A Area D marching band contest in Pflugerville.The young three-year-old Pieper High School Band of Warriors placed third in the area contest with its show titled“Checkmate” and performed at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6, in the preliminary round of the state contest.The Smithson Valley Ranger Band placed fifth in the area contest with its show titled “The Voice Within” and performed in the evening on Nov. 6.The Ranger BandThe 140-member Ranger Band and 33-member color guard played not only for its current members, but for all former band members who worked to build the program, especially for those who qualifiedAfter newrly a decade of service, Heath was honorably discharged in 2006. He returned to Texas in 2011. He is married to an incredible and supportive wife and has four children – three daughters and a son. Heath works in cyber security and is a Co- Founder of Fenix24.William Dearl Herring Jr. Served 4 years in the United States Marine Corps, which included tours in the Vietnam War. He was honorable discharged and attended college. William (Bill) then joined the United States Army and served 20 years. He was a Ring Recruiter and was the recipient of many awards/medals, to include; Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense ServiceMedal, Combat Ribbon Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal.Bill loved being an Army Recruiter/ Retention Officer. He loved helping young people find their way in the military. He loved his country and The United States Armed Forces.Bill died of a military related cancer tied to his service in Vietnam. He was married to his loving wife, Rosemary Herring, for 34 years before his death.
