He often stopped to admire himself in any shiny surface, especially in hubcaps. He often napped in a parking spot at Sweet’s Store or on a bench outside what was once the Picket Fence. He allowed residents and shop owners to feed him twice a day. He also liked to sit on air conditioners outside and watch his neighbors inside.Elvis had several close calls over his lifetime in Bulverde. A call rang out that “someone shot Elvis!” one day, when he was found napping in the middle of the road. Someone got a sheriff’s deputy to check it out, thinking it was an injured rooster. We Create Personalized Gifts• Engraved Plaques& Tumblers• Picture Frames• Wood, Glass & more!20% OFF any purchase Exp. Jan. 31, 2024Elvis “ruled” Bulverde Village. According to citizens who knew him, Elvis was a free spirit who “easily and regularly prevailed in contests over parking spaces.” Only a foot high, he stood his ground against SUVs and pickups, watching them in the reflective bumpers. Not belonging to anyone, Elvis, aka Charlie, aka That Rooster, roamed the village. He claimed all roadways, lawns and gas pumps as his territory and stopped traffic many times as he sauntered across Bulverde Road or strutted down the center4www.bsbhighlights.comDec. / Jan. 2023-24rooster namedShare Your Love Story Contest!way. We aim to share as many of yourenchanting stories as we can. Germans have their own variation called “kartoffelpuffer” that can be served with sour cream, applesauce or smoked salmon. The Irish have “boxty,” which may be made with a combination of shredded potato and mashed potato before being fried. Many potato pancake recipes are quite similar. They involve only a few ingredients and fry up in a flash. Some chefs recommend draining the shredded potato prior to cooking so that the pancakes will fry up crispy and not be soggy or break apart. He lived through near-misses with cars and a nasty dog attack.Unfortunately, Elvis’ nice life in the Village ended when he did battle with a dump truck and lost. This was in June 2005. Everyone missed watching his antics and remember him fondly. Credit for the history of Elvis goes to C.A. Kennedy of the former Bulverde Community News.
